Buddhist Happiness Coaching

with Upāsaka Michael Turner

(f.k.a. Anagārika Pasannacitta)

 I teach happiness as a skill.

Learn how to be happy.
Why do so many people struggle to feel happy?

Would you agree that if you want to be good at something, you have to spend time practicing how to do it?  Yet you likely spend so much time leaning into your anger, anxiety, sadness, or stress.  So, is it any wonder how you've become so good at being unhappy?

Some people bounce back from adversity quickly, while others suffer the impact of challenges, problems, and failures long after they've passed.

What no one told you is that happiness isn't something you earn; it's something you learn.

Being happy isn't a personality trait; it's a skill. And like any skill, it can be understood, practiced, and mastered. Patience, resilience, and contentment are not randomly gifted to special ones. You can actually learn to cultivate those skills to quickly and gracefully bounce back from all of life's ups and downs, regardless of their severity — that's what learning how to be happy can do for you.

It may sound almost childish, but much of my success as a Dharma coach and Buddhist therapist is that I teach people the uncommon skill of being happy.  It's something so simple yet so utterly elusive that, surprisingly, even most "happy" Buddhists struggle to find genuine happiness.

These days, your capacity to smile at others and experience a consistent sense of happiness has never been so important.

Nothing feels better than being a happy person.
Michael Turner Buddhist Life Coach
Upāsaka Michael Turner: buddhist therapist and coach.

I excel at teaching others how to cultivate Happiness through coaching.

I tend to work with intelligent, educated professionals who often come from various high-skill fields such as business, technology, science, or mind-body wellness. Interestingly, most of them, according to the MBTI framework, tend to be (N) Intuitive (I) Introverts. My expertise involves guiding them through the process of exploring new ways to realign their lives, choices, and perspectives; ways which ultimately lead to significantly increased experiences of happiness, contentment, and both personal and professional success, drawing from Buddhist philosophy or what I prefer to call rational, logical common sense — a quality, that I like to joke, is surprisingly rare.

Buddhist coaching is a refreshing change from traditional coaching and psychotherapy.

Working together, I will be your guide through the Buddha's Gradual Path imparting the core principles and practices of Buddhism as outlined in Buddhist texts.  I will explain and clear up any confusion you have about its concepts and teachings.  I will course-correct your understanding and your personal practice in ways that will enhance your spiritual journey toward happiness for the rest of your life.  Furthermore, we will develop your ability to understand how to leverage and when to apply the practices found within Buddhism to help you overcome the manifold of mundane and spiritual obstacles that you encounter, improving your emotional resilience, and achieving a greater sense of balance in your life.

Our success will be demonstrated by your ability to better manage stress, develop positive habits, and improve emotional regulation, and ultimately, to experience an increasing sense of mindfulness, present awareness, and compassion for yourself and those around you.

This is the process of cultivating happiness, but not just surface level happiness.  I’m here to help you discover the path to lasting happiness, a wonderful skill that you can gradually nurture and develop as you progress through the various stages of your life.

This isn't an emotional, foolish, or giddy type of happiness, but a deep, unshakeable inner-happiness and sustainable collectedness that is grounded in your personal sense of well-being, peace-of-mind, and personal safety that generates a transformation in how you interact with the world around you, and consequently, the how the world interacts with you.  Additionally, it's about changing the habitual and happiness-destroying ways you've learned to use when you encounter common stressors in your life.  After all, it's much easier to learn to be happier and more peaceful when you can learn how to not be so easily agitated and irritated.  And it's also about learning how to smile again. 😊️

Buddhist coaching is all about helping you achieve your personal and professional goals within the framework of Buddhist teachings and its core ethical values.

Together, we will help you develop actual Buddhist skills and strengths to finally master and overcome the hindrances that hold you back from spiritual progress and happiness.

MY SUCCESSFUL FRAMEWORK FOR HAPPINESS TRAINING:

THROUGH THE LENS OF BUDDHISM, WE WILL...
  • IDENTIFY the often hidden root cause of your unhappiness, which fuels the steady and unshakeable undercurrent of discontentment or "wanting" that you feel;
  • UNDERSTAND what happiness is from the Buddhist perspective and how to develop the views, practices, and skills that enhance and develop your ability to tap into your wellspring of happiness at will;
  • LEARN practical Buddhist techniques to overcome the problems and challenges (e.g., anxiety, anger, stress, conflict, etc) that bar you from a general sense of peace which already exists within you;
  • INTEGRATE a traditionally Buddhist-based approach to everyday stress reduction, resilience, and problem management;
  • EXPLORE ways to more deeply infuse self-compassion into your day-to-day life and into your interactions with colleagues, friends, and family, allowing you to build more meaningful and resilient relationships.

If you want to be happy, you have to know how to practice being happy, and the more you practice it, the better you will get at it.

I can help you learn this life-changing skill, leveraging the Buddhism you already know.

I can help you learn how to finally be happy.

I am available for initial consultations at no charge.
